Mediterranean Opera Studio & Festival provides a unique opportunity to instrumentalists seeking to expand their understanding of opera. You will work with renown conductors from the most prestigious opera houses (Metropolitan, Covent Garden, etc.). You will be guided to understand the styles and particular skills needed in an opera orchestra. We encourage orchestra members to prepare solo performances, or to think of ensemble pieces you would like to perform in concert with your fellow instrumentalists. As an added bonus for your participation, you will also have free access to the MOSF Italian studies, and to our company tourism to popular sites on the Island.
Apply directly by sending an initial email with resume and audio clip of your playing to director jacklivigni at gmail - and we will contact you.
Orchestra members are required to be present for the duration of the Festival. The first two weeks will be dedicated to preparing the operas. Hours are typically 10-1:30 and 3-6, Monday through Friday, during this period. At the end of week 2 we will begin our performances. Orchestra activity during weeks 3-4 will be from 11am-1pm for Orchestra Time, a program meant to connect singers and orchestra, where our conductors will explain the particular challenges the opera stage presents singers and orchestra, and then performances. Performances on weekdays are typically from 5:30-8pm. Weekend performances are from 8:30-11pm.
During weeks 5-6, orchestra activity will be solely performing in the evening.
Orchestra members are required to be present for the entire duration of the festival. Arrival is June 22 and departure no sooner than August 2. Breakfast and lunch are provided by MOSF in our dorm facility's cafeteria only. Dinner is not provided. Weekly laundry service is provided. Transportation to and from the airport is provided.
Instrumentalist do not pay out-of-pocket for their participation in MOSF. Tuition would normally be $3000 to cover costs of your participation (studies, performances, tourism, services, etc). Performing is how you pay. We will furthermore provide a $500 payment at the completion of the festival as a bonus to each instrumentalist. Thus, each instrumentalist is being paid the equivalent of $3500. We believe this opportunity will enrich you and provide valuable experience and ultimately strengthen the world of opera.
